Welcome to the website of Sylvia Brownrigg.

Sylvia Brownrigg is the author of five acclaimed works of fiction. Her newest novels The Delivery Room and Morality Tale were published by Counterpoint Press in the U.S., and Picador in the U.K. The Delivery Room was named winner of the 2009 Northern California Book Award in fiction and was described in the Observer (U.K.) as “one of the most outstanding and properly adult novels of recent years… For once, the word ‘unforgettable’ is justified.” The Los Angeles Times reviewer wrote, "The thoughtfulness, the intelligence, of Brownrigg's narration, its wry observations and moments of sharp insight into human suffering, are its most striking features."

Morality Tale will be published in paperback in June 2009. In the New York Times Book Review, Elinor Lipman described Morality Tale as "divinely deadpan," and compared Sylvia's writing to that of Carol Shields. (Read the full review) The San Francisco Chronicle called it a "witty parable of marriage… curious, teasing, idiosyncratic and strangely charming." (Read the full review) In the Times Literary Supplement: "Her quirky style makes every line count; she employs a kind of lively writing which recalls the work of Laurie Colvin," (Read the full review) and in The Times of London: "This is a superb novel; blindingly accurate and horribly truthful."
